What are Policies and Procedures?

 

Policies and procedures are a set of documents that describe an organization’s policies for operation and the procedures necessary to fulfill the policies.

Often the policies and procedures are in someone’s head and not written down. Each church should have corporate policies and a procedures manual, with a policy for each ministry within the church. The policies and procedures give clarity with regard to who handles what and provides a standing plan of action which guides the making of decisions, within normal limits, toward reaching objectives.

With policies and procedures in place, the ministry is encouraged to plan in advance, reducing crisis management, and providing continuity and consistency.
